Based upon the book The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power by Joel Bakan, the movie "explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Footage from pop culture, advertising, TV news, and corporate propaganda, illuminates the corporation's grip on our lives." There are interviews with some heavyweights, including Milton Friedman, Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, and Michael Moore.
I found watching The Corporation to be both infuriating and frustrating but for different reasons. Infuriating because of the subject matter, my ire for corporations is at an all-time high. We really do not need to give in to every corporate demand due to fear or economic problems. Some things are more important than money.
The frustrating part of the movie was the fact that there was a wide breadth of topics touched upon but none was presented in any depth. It was sort of like hitting on the al the worst things about corporations without a ton of substance. This movie is a good primer to introduce the unknowing corporate accomplices (i.e. consumers) to the problem but for those people who are already mad as hell, it just serves to rile them up again — which is important don't get me wrong — complacency is a seductive mistress.
