Take one part comedy, two parts Kung Fu, and a dash of romance and you get a surprisingly good movie called Kung Fu Hustle. When I first saw this film it was in parts with someone who had already seen it fast forwarding to "the good parts" and when viewed in this way, Kung Fu Hustle is entertaining for a while, but gets tiresome without the thread of the story winding through it. Without the story of the heroes and anti-heroes, the movie seems rather pointless and trite, not at all like some of the great Kung Fu movies of the past such as Enter the Dragon, Drunken Master, and Once Upon a Time in China.

By the end of my second viewing of Kung Fu Hustle, however, I was impressed with the story and the fight scenes. The ludicrousness of some scenes seemed somehow less ludicrous, the fight scenes, more important and exciting. Kung Fu Hustle takes the prize for best Kung Fu movie of 2005 :)
