Crash started out as am excruciating train of overused stereotypes that depicted everyone as one dimensional and generally in a poor light, then transformed into a film with many shades of grey and capable of bringing out strong emotions from its viewers. I really like that you didn't know who to "root for" or against near the end. Plus it has that whole Shakespearean tragedy thing going for it. Certainly deserving of its Academy Award nomination, I am not sure if it was actually the best picture but certainly up there.
