The Departed
88

Ultimately this film was good enough to win this year's Oscar and get Scorsese his first directorial nod, but, falls short of greatness. There is a lot going on, and while it is definitely interesting the way the many characters are related but are unaware, there really are no surprises in the film. There is nothing that makes people say wow, that was cool. Most often, I hear people say, "well, that was really well done," and that is about it.

I liked it, I mean the cast, it's superb. I think Leonardo DiCaprio* should have been nominated for the Departed, either in addition to or instead of his nomination for Blood Diamond. The rest of the cast was good. I liked seeing Alec Baldwin get all riled and violent, too. I don't have too much more to say, other than, like the aforementioned "people", it was well done.

*As a side note, will Scorsese ever cast leading man other than DiCaprio again? Going back to Gangs of New York, and then The Aviator, The Departed, and now The Rise and Fall of Theodore Roosevelt in 2008, it looks like his man-crush on Leo will continue for the next 15 years like he said last night on the awards show.
