Her sitcom, The United States of Tara (I be I am the first to link to the IMDB page) has been picked up by Showtime. "single-camera comedy from Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television centered on a mother with multiple-personality syndrome" is being billed as a cross between "Weeds" and "Sybil". Whatever they bill it as, congratulations are in order for this local girl!
Google to purchase GrandCentral. Yes!
GrandCentral has been an application that I have been very excited about and one that Refactr has used for several months now. With this acquisition by Google I would bet there will be even more features rolled out (for free). One that I would love, if you are listening Google, would be a fax from/to email service. That would make this web-based phone toolset very compelling.

If we did do it however, a couple of the more appealing rumors have the Timberwolves getting back Amare Stoudamire or Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and the fifth pick in next week’s NBA draft. Those would be decent consolation prizes for losing the best player we have ever had and a sure Hall of Famer.
Verizon's SongID is a pretty sweet concept.
Ever hear a song on the radio or in a store that you like but don't know the title? Verizon's V CAST SongID can listen to it and tell you what it is. Aside from visual voicemail and convergence (ala iPhone) this is a pretty innovative way to use your phone. I hope we see more ways in which our devices can help us interact with the real world, instead of keeping us apart from it.

FInally the Minnesota Timberwolves are making some much needed changes.
The Timberwolves, recognizing that there needed to be some non-player moves this off-season, have fired...their dance team coaches. WTF?! McHale can squander away draft pick, draft horrible players, and generally make a mess of my favorite NBA franchise and he has complete job security, and this is the move they make?! I am sure the dance team performances were why people weren't buying tickets this past season.

What is happening with bees and the subsequent large effect it could have on the world's food supply is a perfect example of why we should care about the destruction of other species. Biodiversity is not about a warm fuzzy feeling, it is about the capacity of our world to continue to sustain us.

When people say "screw eminent domain!"
Boing Boing has a nice collection of photos and stories about people who choose not to cave into government and commercial builders and sell their homes for "the good of the community". I really think civic leaders and community planners ought to rethink the way they define the public good. Are malls really for the public good? What about not destroying existing communities and alienating citizens. I hate how eminent domain is used to screw people and really like reading stories like these.
