The gloomiest day of the year link to external site

British health psychologist, Cliff Arnall, has come up with a formula that points to today as the saddest day of the year for most people:

1/8W + (D-d)3/8 x TQ / M x NA

W - weather
D - debt
d - monthly salary
T - time since Christmas
Q - time since failure to quit a bad habit
M- low motivational levels
NA - the need to take action

I am not sure how you would quantify many of these variables, and even if you could, there are some things that would wreak havoc on the outcome (i.e. if your debt is lower than your monthly salary then you end up multiplying 3/8 and a negative number, and the fact that many people don't really care about Christmas or making new year's resolutions).
